Being diagnosed with cancer can turn life upside down. For those living in the Netherlands who are far from their familiar support networks, whether international students, migrants, immigrants, refugees, or binational families – the experience can feel even more isolating. Navigating treatment in a different language while trying to make sense of emotional and practical challenges can be overwhelming.
Cancer Support Netherlands was created to bridge this gap. We are a Dutch non-profit foundation offering English language, community-based support for anyone in the Netherlands affected by cancer including patients, survivors and caregivers.
Why English Language Cancer Support Matters
The Dutch healthcare system provides excellent medical care, but emotional and peer support often happens informally or in Dutch. For many people who rely on English to express complex feelings, this can create distance at a time when connection matters most. Cancer Support Netherlands offers spaces where people can speak freely, ask questions, and share experiences in English without needing to translate their emotions or medical experiences.
What Cancer Support Netherlands Offers
- Peer connection and community spaces. Confidential peer groups and facilitated spaces where people affected by cancer can connect with others who truly understand what they are going through.
- Events, talks and workshops. Regular online and in-person sessions featuring healthcare professionals and lived-experience speakers. Topics include emotional wellbeing, lifestyle medicine, stress management, nutrition, movement, and navigating life during and after cancer.
- Flexible ways to engage. Everyone’s needs are different. Cancer Support Netherlands offers multiple ways to connect, from open community events to private, confidential peer support spaces.
A growing community
Cancer Support Netherlands connects through Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook, as well as private support groups designed to offer a safe and respectful environment for sharing. In 2026, the team will continue to expand ensuring that people across different regions of the Netherlands can access English language cancer support when they need it.
Cancer Support Netherlands welcomes anyone affected by cancer who prefers to access support in English. This includes:
- internationals
- migrants and immigrants
- refugees
- bi-national families
- long-term residents
- anyone who finds English the most comfortable language for emotional conversation
Family members and carers are warmly welcomed within the wider Cancer Support Netherlands community.

Looking Ahead
As the international and multilingual population of the Netherlands continues to grow, so does the need for inclusive, accessible cancer support. Cancer Support Netherlands is committed to expanding its community, strengthening partnerships, and providing compassionate, community-led support alongside medical care.
