Mission Statement for Winford Bilingual
Our goal is to provide the highest quality bilingual education within a global setting that prepares your child for life beyond the primary classroom. We endeavour to promote each child’s joy of learning by combining Montessori ideals with the International Primary Curriculum and Dutch Inspection Standards. Our unique curriculum offers children social, emotional, and intellectual interaction at their individual levels. Both minds and hearts are opened here which is why our classrooms are carefully prepared environments, filled with a variety of learning experiences designed to lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning. We believe that children should be respected as individuals, allowed to cultivate their innate desire to learn and empowered to learn through experiences as well as from books. Here at Winford Bilingual Primary School, through daily immersion of both languages, we expand your child’s universe to life outside of our classrooms and into the big universe beyond!
Classrooms
Every classroom has both a native Dutch and a native English-speaking teacher. The children are constantly immersed in both languages in every subject area throughout the entire school day, each day. There is a maximum of 20 children per classroom. The small group sizes ensure that both languages are taught proportionately 50/50.
We have a unique curriculum that is based on the Dutch Primary Schools’ National Curriculum and UK Schools’ National Curriculum. These two curriculums combined with Montessori ideals and the International Primary Curriculum make up our well-rounded curriculum that covers international and national primary school requirements for children aged 4-12.
Additional Activities
We teach to the whole child. This means we address the mental, physical, and emotional well-being development of your child. We offer one formal physical activity per week along with art and music lessons per class once a week. We provide lunch 5 days per week to help your child develop physically as well as mentally.
Flexible Holidays
This flexible holiday schedule allows our families to take holidays throughout the academic year. In addition to these flexible days, the school is also closed four weeks in August, two weeks in December and for any National public holidays. This means that your vacation and travel schedule is not bound exclusively to the Dutch holiday schedule. Our families can choose the holiday travel dates that work best for them.
School Hours
Drop-off is staggered for each classroom starting at 9:00 at the door of the school. Pick-up is at 15:00 (M, T, Th, F) outside the school building and at 12:30 on Wednesdays.
