The important role of language in childcare
Language is key to communication, connection and understanding. For children growing up in a multilingual environment, learning multiple languages might seem challenging, but we see it as a unique opportunity. Our childcare is bilingual in English and Dutch, so that we prepare children for both International and Dutch schools. Allowing children to naturally learn both English and Dutch through extensive and proven programs.
Our pedagogical staff is fluent in both languages, providing daily exposure to English and Dutch. This not only aids language development but also enhances cognitive skills and cultural awareness. Research shows that bilingualism offers numerous benefits, including improved problem-solving skills, greater adaptability and enhanced creativity.
The best age to learn a language
Research, including brain scans, indicates that children’s brains are most optimally suited for acquiring language between the ages of 0 and 4. This is known as the ‘critical period.’ At Villa Bloom, we capitalize on this by introducing two languages in a playful manner starting from the baby group.
A bilingual childcare experience between the ages of 0-4 years, will help them at school, giving them a head start, and as they grow older, they will be able to pick up languages without problems. It will also support them in having a good start with understanding, listening, problem-solving and making connections. Additionally, it helps them make friends, as they can communicate in multiple languages.
Long-Term benefits of growing up bilingual
Raising a child in a bilingual environment has significant long-term advantages. Bilingual children develop better cognitive flexibility, allowing them to switch between tasks more efficiently and think more creatively. These skills are invaluable in a world that increasingly values innovation and adaptability.
Furthermore, bilingual children often show strong cognitive skills and have better job prospects later in life. In a globalized economy, the ability to speak multiple languages is highly sought-after. It opens doors to diverse career opportunities and the ability to work in international settings.
