Practice description

Therapy with Madeleine is an independent private practice that offers individual and couples therapy for expats, third culture kids and the queer community in The Hague and across The Netherlands, Belgium and France online. I offer in-person and online therapy sessions in English, French and Spanish. I am dedicated to providing quality care, supporting you to connect to your own inner wisdom.

I am a French-American third culture kid who grew up moving every few years. Having grown up amongst cultures (Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Angola, France, Italy, Canada and Brazil), I have never truly found “home” and consider myself more international, open to all kinds of languages and cultures different from my own, and intimately connected with the wonders and difficulties that come from moving to a new country.

I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Hispanic Studies at McGill University in Canada, and a Masters in Counselling Psychology at Webster University Leiden in The Netherlands. Having written my master’s thesis on third culture kids and their experience of identity and interpersonal relationships, I enjoy working with experiences related to the impact of moving and transitions, adjusting to a new country, migratory grief, immigration, and third culture kids. I feel passionately about working with this population, as well as members of the LGBTQIA+ community, due to my identities within both these groups.

As a counselling psychologist, I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with social anxiety and the queer community. Having been trained in Somatic Experiencing, I enjoy working with these focus points. I help my clients reconnect to their inner peace, rebuild self-esteem and develop self-compassion for themselves and others. My approach is founded in curiosity, compassion and care.

I believe that at some point or another, as human beings we will suffer, and that we deserve to be seen and supported in that suffering. I believe in the importance of tailoring the therapy to your unique needs. This means I use an integrative approach, combining Humanistic approaches, Psychodynamic approaches, with trauma-informed and somatic approaches.
