The Better Life Index is annually compiled by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). It covers all OECD countries, plus Russia and Brazil. It is an online tool that allows the user to decide how important each topic is. There is no ranking of countries; that is up to the user.

The Netherlands performs well on many topics compared to most other countries in the Better Life Index. In general, the Dutch gave their satisfaction a 7.4 grade on average, while the OECD average is 6.5.
